Moving Home Without the Madness

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Whether settling in to your first home, upgrading to a family house or downsizing, moving house is notoriously a stressful, tiring and daunting period. The long list of jobs to face both before, during and after makes this process a worrying time. There are however several preliminary steps you can do to reduce the stress levels and anxiety during this process:

Forward Planning: Once your move has been confirmed, the first action to take should be to sit and carefully list all necessary tasks to complete (however insignificant some they may seem). This should prevent sleepless nights where your mind is still processing the up and coming events. Once written or typed, begin ordering each job in the chronological order of which they need to take place. For example, arranging to visit the new property and measure up should happen well before ordering your new dining suite. Finally, once your list is ordered it also needs to be prioritised to ensure you tackle the most important and time consuming tasks first. Once complete you should feel less overwhelmed by the process and instead see the event on a week by week basis.

How can one turn this room into a beautiful inviting haven? Very easily, start with new bed linens, and it won’t take much effort at all.

Comforters, sheets, pillow cases, dust ruffles, duvet covers are great places to begin. The mere changing of a bed skirt and accent pillows can make quite a difference.

Try looking at discount designer bedding for your home. There are a number of different places you may be able to find it. When you see the word discount, it does not imply that the product is made of inferior materials. In most cases, the bedding is of a very good quality and has been reduced in price because the pattern or color may longer be available or is being replaced. This makes them truly affordable.

However, what is really important is that you try the sheets. There is a marked difference in the quality and feel of the cotton. It’s weave is tighter which gives us greater comfort while lying on it and more durability when laundering. Thread count does come into play here, the higher the better.

Also visiting your local bedding or department store is one of the ways to get good deals on designer bedding via the its sales. You will discover if you do not get to the store early you are likely to miss some really great bargains, and the special ensemble you are seeking.

The store you visit may be discounting a particular pattern because it is no longer being produced. So to make room for the stock they will reduce the price. In most cases, you will find that such discounts only take place at certain times of year.

Therefore if you are someone who would rather not wait until the sales begin there is an alternate method in which you can obtain the discount designer bedding that you want. It is by sitting at your computer and going online. Bedding, gift and decorator websites are offering all types of discounted bedding.

So when buying any kind of item online including bed linens you need to gather as much information as possible. Like actual size measurements, care instructions, fabric content, refund and shipping policies. A reputable bedding seller will provide all the information that you need.

When you do eventually buy your discount designer bedding online having the correct information will ensure that you will be happy with your purchase.

Keep in mind that most of the designing work has been done for you. The colors and patterns have been harmonized, contrasted and complemented in perfect balance to ensure your satisfaction.

So, if it’s time for you to get new bed linens give them a try.

Sleep Tight in a Beautiful Bedroom

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

When decorating your home, the bedroom can often be left relatively unconsidered in favour for more public spaces such as living rooms and kitchens. The atmosphere and balance within the bedroom however are hugely influential factors in effecting your mood and sleep patterns. A calm, light and serene space can help you relax and feel more at ease when falling to sleep. Similarly, a cluttered, dark and chaotic space can leave you restless and irritated.

To create a tranquil and peaceful haven, firstly ensure to keep your furniture to a minimum to maximise the space and light throughout the room. Choose furniture that is not only attractive but also enables you to store away the clothes, shoes, books, beauty products etc often found within the bedroom. A fitted wardrobe is a perfect solution for this. Easily enclosed the storage practicalities can be neatly and subtly restrained to just one area of the room. Furthermore, mirrored doors can help to maximise the light and feeling of space thus leaving the bed as the central focal point.

If fitted wardrobes are not appropriate, be sure to choose wardrobes that balance the bed and other furniture within the room. Try to avoid having all items of furniture on one wall as this can create unbalance and a feeling of enclosure. Instead divide the objects on either side of the bed to create a feeling of symmetry.

As the most essential object in the room, your bed should be appropriately sized for the space and act as a central piece within your furniture collection.

Once the furniture and practical necessities are in place you need to consider the soft furnishings used in the room. This choice is very much dependant on weather you prefer a comforting and cosy or calm and minimalist atmosphere. For ultimate comfort choose warm colours and varying textures for your bedding and curtains. Add a bed head or canopy for extra warmth and luxury.

Similarly, for a more contemporary and bright scheme these principles can be used alongside light, airy fabrics to create a calm yet romantic atmosphere. Keep your bedding simple and basic in clean white shades. To add interest; place a bold wall hanging above the bed to create a central focal point and perhaps introduce some colour to the room. Alongside this, be sure your window dressing complements and echoes the statement made by the bedding to maintain the feeling of rhythm and balance within the room.

To add some individuality and flare to a bedroom finish your design with appropriately chosen accessories. For example, choose some stylish storage boxes which look attractive and can also neatly store away your bottles, jewellery, scarves etc. Use flowers, ornaments or vases to soften the design and add some individuality to quieter areas of the room. Or, use frames, mirrors and wall art to help create a feeling of cohesiveness by echoing characteristics of other elements within the room.

Although often the case, do not let your inspiration for the bedroom design stop at choosing a bed stead. Instead consider the room, its functionality and appearance as a whole. Use furniture, accessories and soft furnishings which create your desired mood and make the space a practical yet personal place for respite and relaxation.

Princess Bedroom Decorating on a Budget

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Every little girl deserves the royal treatment, but it can get costly. No need to worry. You can create a princess royal suite on a paupers budget.

Here are a few tips to help create the perfect princess room without spending a lot of money.

Paint can become costly, especially if the room is large. Try just touching up areas that need it. If her room is in desperate need of repainting, try purchasing returned paint. Some home stores may have cans of paint that were returned and they resell at a discounted price. Another option is to paint stripes on the wall. You will use half the paint you would have needed to paint the entire room and add a decorative touch to the room. If stripes aren’t your style, trying painting the lower half of the walls and then adding a handpainted or wallpaper border to the top of the painted area. Again you are using half of the amount of paint and adding a decorative touch.

If you are starting from scratch and need furntire to fill the room, you have several options here as well. Visit flea markets and rumage sales for dressers and bed frames. You can paint the pieces to match each other. Get creative by adding her initials to the furniture pieces or adding wall stickers to them. White, pinks and purples are the basic princess colors. If you have a toddler, you can find a princess bedroom kit for about $150 or so. It usually includes a princess themed toddler bed, toy storage chest and a table and chair set. The bedroom in a box needs assembly and can range in what is offered.

If you already have outdated or worn furniture, you can spruce them with some paints and decals for a new and fresh look. Find images of princess furniture online and try to duplicate using paint. This could save you hundreds of dollars in new furniture alone.

To fill the walls you can visit your local superstore and buy princess themed posters that cost less than $5 each. The posters are fairly large and will cover a large portion of wall space. Try adding it to an inexpensive poster frame for an extra touch.

Wall sticker decals are fairly popular and are inexpensive. You can spread them around the room or add to one wall for a dramatic effect. Either way, you have wall decor at a low cost.

Princess Bedding can be expensive, so you can try solid colored bedding in pink or purple and then purchase a princess themed pillowcase or throw pillow. Keep an eye out for sales on bedding at the local stores to get a good price.

Decorating your daughters room to fit a princess theme doesn’t have to be expensive. Remember that not all items have to be princess. Bedding and window treatments can be solid colored and then add princess themed touches around the room. Princess themed rugs, accent pillows, wall decals and posters make the perfect accessories for your daughter’s royal princess suite.

Part 1: Clear Conscience

Yes, it really is a simple as it sounds, it is easier to sleep better with a clear conscience.

With Global Warming very much in the news and people getting more and more concerned about their Carbon Footprints, a bedding company have decided to do their best to put your mind at ease.

In February 2008 we purchased over 800 trees and proceeded to plant them on property owned by one of our directors, with a promise from him that the trees would be personally cared for by him, and, so long as he was involved with the company (so long as he was alive!!), never cut down!

SO, what
