Camcorders, Today

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Camcorders are portable electronic devices that have the capabilities to record both video and sound with both a built-in video camera and recorder in one unit. There are a variety of camcorders on the market today that utilize removable media such as tapes, memory cards or even those with non-removable built-in memory, known as HDD (hard disk drive). Often as technology advances, consumers will see a change in electronic devices and the camcorder is just one of those many items that has grown and advanced over the years.

There are many other devices on the market today that have the capabilities of recording streaming video, including digital camera, cellular phones and other portable electronic media players. Although one can use these to capture video just as a camcorder, there are significant differences between them. With these other devices not being specifically designed for video recording, they tend to have limited options for the video and typically do not have a high standard of quality when it comes to resolution, lighting and even overall performance. Many electronic devices will not allow the user to zoom while filming, or you may find that the lens included is not sufficient enough to produce the quality of video you are looking for.

With a variety of circumstances where video footage would be captured in daily life, many people find themselves purchasing a camcorder in order to save these important moments for eternity. Weddings, birthdays, personal events such as baptisms or even local school functions can be just a few of the many opportunities where a consumer would want to have access to a high quality camcorder rather than using the video recording feature of a digital camera or other electronic device. The ease of transferring the completed videos to a computer and the editing software included in camcorders can typically sway a consumer into purchasing a specific model or unit for both personal and even business use.

Although camcorders will cost additional money as compared to those other electronic devices with video ability, in a world of growing technology, the more money you spend on a product, the more options it will have. Having a camcorder that is specific to video recording alone can surpass the limitations that you may find from lower end products and give you the desired results that you are seeking when trying to capture those once-in-a-lifetime moments.

Depending on what you wish to spend on your first camcorder, there are a number of models on the market today that can give you the recording abilities that you are looking for. The Sony Handycam is just one of the many lower-end camcorders that has all the same options of a video recorder of a different model. JVC, Toshiba and even Samsung are among the many top choices when it comes to camcorders, each with their own specifications and options to sway a consumer into purchasing that product. With options such as weight, zoom and shutter speed, resolution and even media storage, making the choice for your next camcorder can be tedious unless you know exactly what you are looking for.

Digital Single Lens Reflex Cameras Today

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Single lens reflex cameras are advanced, high-end cameras favored by professional photographers and amateur enthusiasts. Such photographers gravitate toward SLR cameras because they are faster, take more precise photographs, and are more adaptable.

Have you ever used a film camera and noticed that photo you took is slightly off-center from the image you framed through the viewfinder, especially on close-up shots? This happens because one cannot look through the actual lens of the camera

Special Effects Using Camera Filters

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

A glance through almost any magazine will display a flood of picture ads. For the most part, the special effects you see in these ads are created either through photo editing software or cameras fitted with special types of filters.

Many types of filters are available, each having a unique and specific function. For example, there are different filters for black and white, others for color photos, and some that are used for both. Additionally, there are also filters that enhance contrast while others improve the picture sharpness.

Below are brief descriptions of various filters and the effects they produce on pictures.

Cross and Star Effect Filters

Star effect flares are available in different points like star-eight and star-six. These flares are used for increasing image brightness and enhancing more difficult photos of theme parks, sun reflecting from glass surfaces, and street lights.

Like star filters, a cross filter is best for situations in which the person in the picture is wearing jewelry. It generates more dramatic effects to anything bright worn by the person.

Spectral cross filters are normally used in portraits and outdoor shots. They produce cross effects and soft-focus effects. These filters consist of two transparent optical glasses which are arranged in a rotating frame. A gauze-like black fiber is positioned between the two transparent glasses.

Made up of two glasses, Vario cross filters generate a special effect of four light rays emerging from a single point source of light. You can easily rotate each glass individually to change the angle of emerging rays of light.

Close-up Filters

This filter is better than a zoom lens. It is used for close-up photography and available in different diopters ranging from +1 to +10. The higher the number the, closer the capture.

Macro close-up filters with a +10 diopters rating with a two-element, two-group construction lens are used for capturing tiny objects such as flowers and insects.

With it, you can easily take a close up of only half the subject, retaining the other half in its normal size. This is helpful when you want to focus on both near and distant objects simultaneously.

Multivision Filters

Multivision filters find their niche when a single subject needs to be displayed in an individual photo repeatedly. These filters are available in ranges of 3F, 3PF, 6F, 6PF, and 5F. Each number represents the number of times an object will be duplicated in the picture. Moreover, different colors can be added to an image using color multivision filters.

Misty Spot Filters

Misty spot filters are used for emphasizing the primary focal point of the picture. For this purpose the background of the image is set to a blur with the image in its normal state to accentuate the subject in the foreground.

There are four different types of misty spot filters: breezing filters, gradual filters, windmill filters, and halo filters.

Diffusion Filters

Due to uneven or irregular surface, diffusion filters produce a soft focus effect. These are normally used for portrait shots.

Center Spot Filters

The center spot filter gives the center a sharp and clear image. The background, on the other hand, ends up with a romantic, foggy effect.

These filters enhance specific details of photos without the use of computer photo editing software.

Polaroid Company and Their Digital Technology

Monday, August 11th, 2008

The epoch let out Polaroid society conditions and account materials for the sake of instant reception of photos with the use of chemical processes, and has succeeded in it. The concept of Polaroid pictures became standard and did not demand further explanations. However the competition of the digital technologies in the end has compelled the company to refuse the archaic “chemistry” and to offer buyers more modern decisions.

However, the idea of “an instant photo” has not disappeared, and today Polaroid has suggested taking for these purposes the easy mobile printer PoGo, which is quite corresponding to the spirit of modern technologies. The principle of reception of images is rather original - performance contains neither ink, nor painting materials. The essence of the focus consists in the firm photographic paper ZINK, which contains layers with crystals of primary colours.

Some manufacturers among whom are Agfa, Epson and Polaroid, for increases of the target sanction apply technologies of image improvement. In Polaroid PDC-3000 for its matrix with one million elements the technology of expansion of the target image is also applied though at the disconnected function of expansion it is possible to receive only 800×600 pixels.

The nearest purpose of Polaroid Company is creation of technology of an instant press of digital photos. Soon Polaroid plans to present two platforms of a digital press; now they are designated by code names Onyx and Opal. Management of Polaroid hopes, that it will help to correct the parameters, which have worsened recently of sales and to provide the companies leading positions in a developing market of processing digital images.

Opal and Onyx technologies should raise quality and reduce the cost of an instant press of digital images. Opal tools are intended for reception of colour prints, and Onyx technology is focused on processing of monochrome and black-and-white images. Both systems provide application of a paper with a special covering and use of special thermal process. Unlike the traditional Polaroid instant photos, to the prints made by Onyx and Opal technology, it is not required even a little additional time for development.

Activation of or crystals occurs following the account of heating of a material in the printer. The company approves, that pictures received as a result do not fade in a course of a long time, are not smeared and are not afraid of casual drops of water. However, we can assume that the difference of heat is not an advantage for the pictures.

Polaroid traditionally does not indulge the users with the size of instant pictures - the photographic paper for the sake of PoGo has a size of 5 ı 7,6 cm. Press of one picture borrows about 60 seconds. The sources of images are mobile cameras, digital cameras the use of interfaces Bluetooth or USB (PictBridge).

Polaroid has declared the start of new electronic XSJ-00750M, 7 inches digital photo frame with a unique feature - increase in ability that allows users to look through and increase the photos without the use of a computer. In opinion of the company, it has allowed a zoom-digital camera frame to include functions of a slide show from 5 stages adjustable terms: from 3 till 60 seconds. This latest digital product from Polaroid also features an interchangeable frame, brightness, and ratio of 400:1 resistance and USB 2.0 connectivity, along with an integrated multi-card reader to handle wide variety of memory card formats.

Digital Cameras - How They Work

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Digital cameras come in various sizes, shapes, and specifications and offer a variety of impressive features.

Digital cameras are quickly gaining popularity around the globe. Many people already own one and routinely use it for their own pictures. Their use have become part of the culture among many communities and industries.

Digital cameras also have become part of a broad package of combined features with other hand-held tools, such as PDA devices and cellular phones. This makes the use of both devices much more convenient, having them combined in one, rather than two or more, functional instruments.

Digital cameras, moreover, not only can be used for still photos as with conventional cameras, but also for taking videos. An owner needs only to upgrade the camera’s memory card to increase storage capacity.

The marketplace offers a number of digital camera brands that provide a wide range of features. Olympus, Canon, Nikon, Kodak, and HP are some of the better-known brands of cameras offering the conventional 35mm to digital. Other key camera manufacturers include Sony, Panasonic, and Casio.

Digital Camera Considerations

Differing from conventional cameras, digital cameras have a small LCD screen, and sometimes an LCD screen plus viewfinder. The LCD screen is similar to TV screens that allow the photographer to see the picture, even before snapping it. Some have large screens that enable the photographer to see more of the subject and background.

Digital cameras also come with memory slots that hold a memory card or “stick.” The amount of memory available in them ranges from megabytes to gigabytes. Of course, the more memory, the greater the cost. However the extra storage capacity may be well worth the additional expense.

Another purchasing concern is the battery. Some digital cameras use disposable batteries. However, they wear out quickly, so most people recommend rechargeable batteries for longer energy life. Typically a rechargeable battery and a charger come in bundle with the camera unit.

Finally, consider the way the pictures are downloaded. Though many digital cameras come with a USB port which easily connects to a computer, there are others that necessitate removing the memory card and positioning it with a reader to download pictures.

Digital Camera Features

Camera buyers should know at least the basic features of their camera of choice before making an expensive purchase. Though the snapping of pictures is fundamentally the same from camera-to-camera, there are features that make one brand more appealing than others.

For example, the number of mega pixels used when taking pictures - meaning millions of pixels that help with the clarity of the pictures - should be one of the primary considerations to most buyers. Pixels are the individual “dots” that make up the content of pictures.

As such, cameras offering a greater number of pixels can produce larger images with better resolutions than those with less. Be aware, though, that cameras using a more pixels consume more camera memory when storing the images.

The camera’s zoom function is also critical. Most digital cameras are enhanced with a two-zoom capability; the optical and digital. Optical zoom uses a moving lens and makes the subject in the picture appear closer, while digital zoom crops or stretches the image.

Finally, don’t neglect the importance of the camera case’s durability. Some digital cameras are made predominantly of plastic materials - and are consequently more fragile - while others are comprised of a combination of plastic and metal alloy.

Either type has limitations in the amount of jarring that can be sustained without internal damage. Spend a little extra money to purchase a case that will protect your camera investment.

How to Shop For a Computer Online

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Computers are a lot cheaper now than they were fifteen years ago, due to advancements in technology and the onset of more efficient production techniques. In stores, you can find quality computers for as low as four hundred dollars. Although you can get good deals buying from a traditional business, you can save even more money by choosing to shop for a computer online.

If you want the comfort and security of a brand name, you can still opt to purchase from them. Every single major retailer, and even the minor ones, has a website which features information about the company itself and its entire catalog. On your own time, you can browse through the catalog to find the perfect computer to meet your needs. Large corporation websites are usually designed well, easy to read through, and load quickly, meaning it does not take that long to examine a multitude of product pages.

The expediency of online shopping facilitates the process of buying any product, computer or otherwise. With computers, there are several specifications you want to be aware of, such as the hard disk storage space, RAM, type of monitor, etc. In a store, you would need to walk from product to product, reading the small printed characteristics one at a time. When shopping on a website, you can simply open a tab for each product you are interested in, and then speedily skim through each page, reading deeper into computers that you are most interested in.

As always, eBay is an incredible place to turn if you are primarily interested in finding the lowest price. You can quickly browse through listings of new and used computers. Some listings may include an assortment of accessories to go along with the computer, and these are great to look into, as buying a set of items together is cheaper than purchasing them separately. With eBay, you also have the ability to pay with PayPal, meaning you can be sure the transaction is safe and secure.

Price comparison websites show you the prices for the same product from multiple different sources. Google Product Search, originally known as Froogle, was one of the first price comparison services. While Google Product Search does not take any commissions on the products it sells through the service, many other product comparison services make a lot of money on commission. By utilizing one of the dozens of services on the Internet, you can find the lowest price on an individual product, without having to go to each vendor separately.

Knowing how to buy a computer online is essentially worthless if you do not know what to look for in a computer system. If you are just going to be using the computer for business purposes, you do not need to spend extra money on an enhanced graphics card or a higher amount of RAM. You may, however, want to get a webcam for video conference purposes. What you are going to be using the computer for determines exactly what you need.

Whatever you are going to use a computer for, you probably need more than just the CPU and monitor. Accessories you will probably require include speakers, a printer, and a higher-quality mouse. Finding accessories works the same way as finding a computer, except you do not need to spend as much time deciding on smaller devices.

Night Vision Cameras. Protection in the Darkest Night

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

What exactly is the purpose of a security camera, what were they invented for? Well as far as I am concerned as well as any one who owns one or even back to the person/s who invented it was to inhibit criminal activities, to capture the criminal right in the middle of the act on camera. But here is the problem that we face, crime does not only happen in the day but also happens at night but not all cameras work well at night without the aid of an additional external light to aid it. For one thing, it is an extra overhead expense on a companies part and particularly for nature conservationist who use cameras to monitor animals in their natural habitat at night this would hinder there progress. For that specific reason one such camera exist that takes care of this problem, night vision security cameras.

The thing is most security cameras have the ability to produce relatively decent pictures in dim or low light but is an impossibility for them in total darkness, which is the weakness in most cameras. As previously stated this is where night vision security cameras come in, but with one slight disadvantage in that the current generation cannot record in color but in black and white. There is however an option of getting those equipped with a hybrid configuration that allows it the ability to produce color images in good lightning but returns to black and white in night vision mode. This however is an aside considering it does its job and keeps view of the surroundings even in the dark.

There are many shows and movies on television depicting night vision goggles and cameras whereby the image produce is something like a green background or coloring with shadows for images. What you should know though in reality images produced from the night vision security camera are somewhat similar but however the actual quality and detail or the produce images are much more defined and therefore are liked more by people in comparison to what is seen on television.

Is a night vision camera and an infrared camera the same?

Are they? No, they are not he same. Most confuse the two and think that night vision cameras use infrared to film images. However, they could not be further from the truth. Infrared security cameras utilize the heat emitted from an object to aid it in capturing images and make them visible. This in movies is usually depicted as a yellow and red image against a black background projecting the difference in the heat produced between the object in view and the surrounding area. A night vision camera on the other hand however is equipped instead with small light that is emitted to focus on a specific object in order to record the image.

Now if you intend to utilize a night vision camera to view what goes on around an object this should be a job done by an experienced professional or on the advice of one familiar with these cameras. This is so because of external light appearing from the surrounding areas can confuse the camera into thinking there is more light present than really is there. This more or less then obstructs and interrupts the internal mechanism that automatically switches camera modes and renders a disorganized video. Just to say, it fools the camera and makes it use less light than normally needed making it unable to get a proper picture.

All said and done, the price tag on one of these cameras while not exactly ridiculous, still when you look at it is more reserved to locations or to persons who have that extra amount of funds to spend on their personal security.

Choosing The Proper Surveillance Camera Systems

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

As we all know, the need for security in our homes, in our businesses and in our community is in an exceeding and alarming increase nowadays. Just simply having human and/or animals posted at whether general or specified locations as security guards is either now proving to be not enough or in some cases the extent of just a futile measure. A number of people because of this fact have over the years been moving towards security surveillance systems as an alternative, or to assist security personnel in their work, as just one of weapons in their realization for defense of self. For some time now businesses and corporations held the monopoly for the use of security cameras to hinder criminal and illegal conduct in form of thieves and robbers, but however the trend has now been moving towards home owners and private use.

After all a thief does not really care if it is a house or store once there is something valuable to steal, it is all up for grabs, mind the notion used. This all is fine and dandy but however leaves the homeowner or proprietor in a predicament being what the best surveillance system for his/her specific needs is and one that would return his investment.

What most people have foolishly come to believe is that propping a camera on the outside of the premises most times in view of the door or windows dependent on their perspective, is all they need for security purposes. Unfortunately for them it is not until an incident of burglary or robbery occurs and they find out that they are no usable and visible images on the reel of tape that they realize the chose the wrong camera and it was in fact not enough for their security. Hopefully they do not blame the camera for their misfortune but their lack of judgment in the use of them. What is even worst is when they actually wait until an incident of such happens to realize that they actually needed a security camera in the first place.

Budget is also something to think about, not everybody can afford a ten thousand dollar security system but fortunately for those with a less inclination for such funds there are several types of cameras readily available at very affordable prices. For example, you can choose from a simple wide-angle camera that can capture a large area to those that can be remotely panned, tilted and zoomed in to effectively track a burglars trail as they maneuver around in the home or on the property.

Lenses consideration.

Like a security surveillance camera the lenses themselves tend to vary from the standard available lenses, being the least expensive component. The thing is if you are one of those persons who puts the camera in the vicinity of the doors or windows, it is a good idea to purchase a security surveillance camera that is equipped with a lens which aperture automatically adjusts.

When it comes to still cameras the amount of light that enters it determines whether you end up with a picturesque quality image or well, a dud. Lenses with a fixed aperture if and when in the presence of very bright light, sunlight or even headlights can produce washed out images with unrecognizable features. Surveillance cameras are no different in this perspective and this little characteristic for such a camera as you know is the difference between the criminal being identify and caught or hoping someone caught a glimpse of guy because your camera could not. By getting yourself a security camera with auto-aperture that will adjust the lens according to the amount of light, will aid in captures no matter the amount of light the a good quality picture.

The Responsibilities That Come Along With Owning Home Security Camera

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

This world is no longer the safe and comforting place that we used to know and you as person in the world should know that. Remember those days when neighbors and friends would look out for your best interest, your property, etc. Well that time is done and gone; most homeowners nowadays have switched to a more responsible and dependable system of installing home security cameras in order to protect their family and their assets and to ward the dangers of the outside world. Also with the fact that home security cameras prices are continually on the decline it has become more and more affordable for the commonplace family to own one for themselves. Most cameras however come in black and white, though there are color cameras but slightly more expensive, the images produced are readily recognizable and accepted in court.

Increasingly so homeowners are constantly installing home security cameras in their home as a preemptive strike against delinquent activities especially if their residence is in a crime ridden neighborhood. Cameras are also frequently used in business and industry as a way to keep track of the daily ongoing events in their businesses, private residences are however becoming the prime targets of companies that sell and market home security cameras for personal use as they would take advantage of the lack of knowledge and ignorance of most individuals to the security product industry. That is why it is so important to do research first and purchase the proper system that suits you.

The problem and most unfortunate thing is that quite a few individuals nowadays use cameras for their own personal and illicit activities such as leering in on neighbors or even worst at their own family members. While the increase in availability is good thing, there is also an increase in the lack of the sense of responsibility when it comes to owning a camera. Way to often people end of committing crimes, quite often so carelessly, in the process of protecting their family.

Being careful in reference to Privacy Laws

Frequently nowadays there are too many cases of homeowners installing security cameras in their premises without looking into or inspecting the total scope or region of sight of a camera. One good example is someone keeping records of their boundary lines could quite accidentally so, take images of the neighbors’ private property. This is in itself is a violation of privacy and gives off a rather negative foresight of what a home security camera really represents and its use, not forgetting giving privacy advocates something to scream about.

Another case to think about is inside of your own home, yes inside of your house. Imagine you are in the bathroom or in your bedroom changing, bathing, etc and all that time somebody is looking at you through a camera. Even in some states, in order to record in common areas in the house, if a person is visiting they have to be forewarned that they are being recorded. The use of home security camera in a household environment has to be used sparingly and with a sense of privacy in mind because while some boundaries might clear like the bedroom and bathroom others are a thin line between being the family protector and being a plain old stalker.

Outside presents even more of a challenge in that as stated before while recording your own property you could end up with images of the neighbors’ property. What is worst is images are captured of activities inside of the neighbor’s house? And this can be heavily charged for invading the neighbors’ privacy.

In conclusion while the use of home security cameras may have changed the world for better, giving a person a tighter grip over the security of their family and assets, if used irresponsibly could mean some serious jail time and/or fines.
