Dancing With the Stars - Why do We Like It

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Dancing with the Stars is a television program that is viewed by millions of viewers a season. There is much speculation as to why the show started off so popular and has not lost any of its following. There is no way to determine for certain why people like the show and continue to watch it season after season.

Dancing with the Stars is about to begin its 7th season in the fall of 2008. Since the very first season back in the summer of 2005, the world loved this show. For some reason people can not seem to get enough and anxiously wait for each new season to begin.

Each season starts with the introduction of the teams of professional dancer and their teammate celebrities. Then as the season progresses, the public gets to see a rare glimpse of their favorite stars or athlete

Dancing With the Stars - Men Versus Women: Is There an Advantage?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

There are many different aspects of life where being a man or being a woman will give you an advantage. Is the television program Dancing with the Stars, one such situation where being of one sex will give you an advantage over contestants of the other? If it is, I do not see how.

It is true there have been more male winners of Dancing with the Stars than female winners but I do not believe they won because they were males. I have faithfully watched the program; week after week and season after season and do not believe the sex of the contestant even is a factor in their scores for a given week. In fact, I believe the only thing that the sex of the contestants helps to determine on Dancing with the Stars is who their partner will be.

There are those fans of the show that believe the male contestants have a distinct advantage on Dancing with the Stars over their female competitors. I will give some credit to the statement on the basis that the males have won four out of six seasons but that is not because they were males, it was because they did a better job learning the given dances.

That brings us to another speculation I have heard concerning the contestants on Dancing with the Stars. I have heard it said a few different times that the female professional dancers that they employ on the program are of better quality than the male professional dancers. I am not a dancer so the only way I can determine that is by the outcome of the shows. It would appear that the female dancers are better teachers but I am not saying they are better dancers.

If the females can teach the dances in question better than the male professionals, than that would give the male contestants an advantage. I am not saying it is true or not but I am just saying, there are people that believe the females are better at communicating the different dances so that would give the male celebrities an easier time learning the dances.

Some people have speculated as to why the men are winning more seasons then the woman at a fact that the men are stronger and therefore more able to take on the physical demands of learning the dances. There may be some merit to these allegations as both women that were the final winners of their seasons are very athletic by nature. Kristi Yamaguchi is a professional figure skater and Kelly Monaco is a very physically active actress.

Now what can be attributed to that fact that the male celebrities have had a winning record of two to one? Could it be the female professionals are more equipped or better at teaching dances? Or could it possibly be the public liked the male celebrities more to begin with so they had a better chance of winning overall approval? No matter why it happens, the fact remains, the males seem to have a 2 to 1 advantage when it comes to the possibility of winning the final episode of Dancing with the Stars.

No matter why it is true, the facts speak for themselves. The male celebrities have won four of the six seasons of Dancing with the Stars. Whether it be because they are stronger, have better teachers, or just want to win, will never really be known for sure. Watch the next season and come to your own conclusion.

Dancing With the Stars - A Hotbed of Romance

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Dancing with the Stars is a show that has been rumored to have the ability to sprout romance. Yes it is true that the show has sprouted a few off screen relationships but, do you think that those relationships would have happened had it not been for Dancing with the Stars?

First of all, it is really hard to say if the relationships would have happened without Dancing with the Stars as the contestants come from different areas of celebrity. Some of these people would not have had their paths crossed had they not been on the show at the same time.

Dancing with the Stars has produced three confirmed off stage romances; Sabrina Bryan and Mark Ballas (season 5), Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff (season 3), and Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough (season 6). Each of these couples began on the dance floor and at least one of them, Mario and Karina has grown. The couple moved in together and is reportedly doing well.

Dancing with the Stars is a natural breeding ground for a romance to begin. After all, couples are paired together and work week after week to become the best they can be. It is only natural that if there is any attraction that the partners could not only fall into each others arms dancing but also in a romantic manor.

What makes for a good relationship and for a winning team on Dancing with the Stars are one and the same thing. Being able to rely on the other person 100% is vital in both. Working in such close contact with a single person, for the same end result, is one surefire way to ensure a friendship. What made these three couples turn that friendship into more?

One thing that seems to be indifference between the couples is age. It does not seem to matter that is what age. The couples have found each other through hard work and trying to win the competition.

Does it really seem like an unlikely place to kindle the romantic fires? Yes, it is true that Dancing with the Stars is like a work place situation. It is also true that each celebrity and each professional dancer have a specific roll in the competition. The celebrity is there to learn to be the best dancer they can be while the professional dancers are there to teach the celebrities how to accomplish the specific dances as flawlessly as they possibly can. So why not think that it would be possible to take the utter trust required between dance teacher and pupil to the next level of boyfriend and girlfriend.

In conclusion, Dancing with the Stars is a natural breeding ground for romance. The level of trust needed in a partner on the show is equivalent to that of a relationship. Through the constant working on the contestants to become the best in any given season of Dancing with the Stars, it is only natural that romance could grow as well.

Dancing With the Stars - A Five Star Show For All Ages

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Have you ever watched the television program Dancing With The Stars? If not, that is surprising. Dancing With the Stars is a television show that is loved by many different people of all different ages. For example, I am a mother of 6 children. Dancing With the Stars is the only show that my children, all except the baby because he can not talk, and I love to watch. We try not to miss a single episode.

My oldest, an eleven year old girl and my 4th oldest, a four year old girl, sit week after week glued to the screen hoping to pick up some new moves to use in their drill squad performances. If we have to miss an episode, I hear it for days from them both.

Then there is the flipside, and by that I mean the portion of my family that are boys. I have two boys that watch it weekly as well and they are 7 and 8 years old. The older of the two watch it wondering if he will ever dance like that and the younger of the two watch it hoping to see someone mess up. Go figure, boys will be boys.

I personally like to watch it because it shows that celebrities do not automatically come by a wide array of talent they have to work to become good at some things. My personal favorite celebrity that has been on the show, probably showed that more than some. Billy Ray Cyrus is my favorite of the all the celebrities that have appeared on Dancing With the Stars. He struggled from day one. He was large and awkward to put it nicely.

Billy Ray never let his awkwardness hold him back though. He gave it his all every time he performed. An interesting point is that season, all of my children were also rooting Billy Ray on. Granted they were rooting for him because he is the father to their favorite actress but none the less, it again shows the wide range of ages that enjoy the show. After all, any show that can keep the interest of a woman in their mid to late 30s and also her six children must have something worthwhile in it.

Now let us take a minute to compare what the different age groups think of the judges. The three widely known judges are; Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonili. Every one has their own opinion of the judges. Some like one or two of them and there are also some that like all three or none of them. I like the fact that the judges usually will be right on the money. However, I have noticed that my children tend to get upset with the judges, even when their scores are warranted, if the judges give their favorite performer a bad score. They seem to be hardest on Carrie Ann, especially my boys.

No matter what age, sex, or geographic area you are from, chances are you have seen an episode or more of the ever popular show Dancing With the Stars. If you have children, try to sit down and watch an episode with them. It is a fun way to install quality family time in this hectic world we live in.
